What is Swell Aquarium Ultra Porous Biological Filter Media? The essential material in an aquarium filter system is the one that allows bacteria to grow and break down organic substances produced by the plants and animals in the aquarium. This process is important for closing the biological cycle and keeping the fish alive. The bacteria break down ammonia and nitrite, which are toxic and can be fatal to the fish in the aquarium. Ceramic rings are often used for this purpose, but they do not allow for the maximum settlement of bacteria. Swell Aquarium Ultra Porous Biological Filter Media, on the other hand, is made of sintered glass with a porous structure, which allows for the settlement of up to 20 times more bacteria than ceramic rings. It is especially suitable for overcrowded aquariums, marine aquariums, or filters with reduced dimensions compared to the volume of the tank. How do I use this media? To use, rinse the product under hot running water before adding it to the aquarium. Use 540 grams for every 300 litres of aquarium capacity, or double for saltwater aquariums. Do not rinse the product again during use and replace 50% of the mass every year.
